Kaito’s Titanium Cutting Board
KAITO MASON · DULUTH, MINNESOTA
The Cutting Board Kaito Designed for the Cook Who Treats a Knife Right
Kaito Mason spent twelve years as a line cook in commercial kitchens before he started making cutting boards in his garage in Duluth. He made them for the same reason he sharpened his own knives: the tools available weren’t built for the way he worked. Titanium handles temperature changes without warping, doesn’t harbor bacteria in the surface, and doesn’t require oiling.
Each board is hand-finished by Kaito — edges eased, surface polished to a consistent matte that won’t slip and won’t glare. It’s not the warmth of wood. It’s the permanence of something you can put in a dishwasher without apologizing.
“I built it for cooks who don’t want to think about their board. The board should be the thing that disappears.”
Kaito Mason, former line cook & board maker, Duluth, MN
WHY THIS PIECE
Three Details Worth Noticing
Titanium surface doesn’t absorb anything
Unlike wood and many plastics, titanium doesn’t harbor bacteria in micro-scratches on the surface. Kaito chose it for the same reason he chose it for kitchen environments: you clean it once and it’s clean. No conditioning, no oiling, no food-safe finish to maintain.
Dishwasher-safe, temperature-stable
Titanium doesn’t warp with temperature changes or humidity cycles. You can run it through a commercial dishwasher and pull it out flat. Wood boards can’t do that. This one can.
Edge finish Kaito does by hand
The edges are eased and the surface is brought to a consistent matte by Kaito before shipment. Not for aesthetics — for function. A sharp board edge catches the heel of your hand. An eased edge doesn’t.
FROM THE MAKER
I’ve sharpened hundreds of knives that were ruined by bad cutting surfaces. Ceramic, glass, hard plastic — all of them punish the edge. Titanium is different. It has enough give that your knife stays sharp, but it doesn’t hold onto anything it touches.

HOW IT COMPARES
A Different Kind of Piece
| What matters | This piece | Another approach |
|---|---|---|
| Surface material | Titanium — non-porous, temperature-stable. | Wood is warm but requires oiling and warps with moisture; plastic varies widely. |
| Bacterial resistance | Non-porous surface; no micro-scratches that harbor bacteria. | Wood and soft plastics develop surface scratches over time. |
| Dishwasher safety | Fully dishwasher-safe; stays flat. | Wood boards cannot go in a dishwasher. Many plastics warp. |
| Knife edge | Enough surface give to protect a well-sharpened knife. | Glass and ceramic boards destroy knife edges; hard plastic is better but still harder than titanium. |

What’s Here Before You Choose
An honest note
Titanium is harder than wood and softer than ceramic. It will show fine surface marks from heavy use over time — this is normal for any cutting surface. It won’t warp and won’t absorb stains, but it will age. That’s a sign it’s being used.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this dull my knives?
No. Titanium has enough surface give that a well-sharpened knife maintains its edge on it better than it would on glass, ceramic, or hard plastic. It’s not the same as a wooden end-grain board, but it’s not a knife-killer either.
Is it really dishwasher-safe?
Yes. Titanium doesn’t warp with heat or humidity. Run it through on any cycle. It will come out flat and clean. No drying ritual, no oiling.
Does it slip?
The matte finish Kaito applies adds grip. If you work on a very smooth surface, a damp towel under any cutting board — this one included — is good practice.
Is this for display or actual use?
Use. Kaito built it for a commercial kitchen environment. It’s not a serving board you take to the table to look good — it’s a prep board you can actually work on hard, then clean, and repeat.
Built for the Cook Who Treats a Knife Right
Twelve years of commercial kitchens distilled into one thing: a board that doesn’t fight you and doesn’t need maintenance. Titanium, hand-finished by Kaito, dishwasher-safe. The tool that disappears into your kitchen and does its job every day.

What Kaito’s customers are saying
I’ve been through four cutting boards in five years — warped walnut, stained bamboo, cracked acacia. This one is none of that. Flat after a month of daily use, dishwasher every time, still looks new. Exactly what I wanted.
As someone who sharpens their own knives, I was nervous. Titanium felt like a gamble. It wasn’t. My edges hold longer than they did on my old end-grain maple board. Kaito clearly tested this.
The edge work is real — no sharp corners catching my palm mid-prep. That sounds like a small thing until you’ve used a board that didn’t bother. This one bothered.
Gift for my husband who is obsessive about his kitchen setup. He didn’t say much when he opened it. He just started using it. Two months later he hasn’t reached for his old board once. That’s the review.
