Fern’s Mini Cat Figurines
FERN DALEY · ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA
The Figurines Fern Started Making After the Shelter Closed
Fern Daley ran a small cat rescue out of her garage in Asheville for eleven years. When the last cats were placed and she closed the operation in 2021, she kept making things for them — first sketches, then clay studies, then these miniatures. Each figurine is cast from her original hand-sculpted molds and hand-painted in her kitchen studio.
The cats come in poses Fern recognizes from the hundred-plus rescues she placed: the tucked sleeper, the watch-post sitter, the mid-stretch. Not generic. Not precious. Exactly what a cat looks like when it thinks no one is watching.
“I made the molds so I’d remember them. Then people started asking to buy them, so I kept making more.”
Fern Daley, former rescue operator & figurine maker, Asheville, NC
WHY THIS PIECE
Three Details Worth Noticing
Sculpted from life, not from a template
Fern’s molds came from clay studies she made during her rescue years — poses she’d observed hundreds of times. The proportions are right because she started from real cats, not from a gift-market figurine category.
Hand-painted in her kitchen studio
Each piece is hand-painted by Fern after casting. No two are identical. The variation is intentional: she’s painting a specific animal, not a product photo.
A set that makes sense as a group
The figurines are sized and posed to sit together on a shelf or windowsill without competing. One sleeper, one sitter, one stretch. They hold the space without filling it up.
FROM THE MAKER
I made the first molds so I’d remember specific cats I’d placed. Miso, who slept in a croissant shape on every surface she could find. Clover, who watched the door from the same windowsill for three years. I still know which cat each pose is.

HOW IT COMPARES
A Different Kind of Piece
| What matters | This piece | Another approach |
|---|---|---|
| Origin | Sculpted from Fern’s eleven years of rescue observation. | Gift-market figurines are typically designed to a category, not from life. |
| Painting | Hand-painted by Fern; no two identical. | Factory-painted pieces are consistent but generic. |
| Pose accuracy | Three poses based on real behavioral positions. | Most figurines use decorative poses not drawn from observation. |
| Set logic | Sized and posed to sit together without competing. | Varies; sets don’t always have a spatial relationship. |

What’s Here Before You Choose
An honest note
Hand-painting means variation between pieces — markings, shading, and color saturation differ slightly from the photos. This is not a defect; it’s how Fern works. If exact color matching matters for a set, note that in your order.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do the figurines come as a set or individually?
They’re sold in packs. A single pack gives you the full trio: sleeper, sitter, stretch. A two-pack gives you two sets of three — enough for two spaces or to give one as a gift. The three-pack is for people who know exactly where they’re going.
Will my set look exactly like the photos?
Close, but not identical. Each piece is hand-painted by Fern, so color saturation, markings, and shading will vary slightly. The variation is part of the piece — it’s not a defect and it’s not correctable via exchange.
Is this a good gift?
For the right person — someone with a cat or a history with cats — yes. The story matters as much as the object: a woman who ran a rescue for eleven years and kept the poses she saw most. That’s something to say on a card.
How small are they?
Miniature scale. Exact dimensions are not specified in the listing. They fit on a narrow windowsill and hold their own on a bookshelf without dominating it.
The Cats Fern Still Remembers
Miso, Clover, and the rest of them: placed, gone, but still in the molds. Three poses from eleven years of rescues, cast and painted by the person who saw them first. For a shelf, for a windowsill, for the person in your life who has a specific relationship with cats.

What Fern’s customers are saying
Bought two sets — one for my desk and one for my sister who has three cats. The sleeper pose is so accurate it’s almost uncanny. You can tell these were made by someone who actually watched cats.
I collect small ceramics and this set stands out. The hand-painting gives each piece its own character. Mine arrived slightly different from the photos in the best way — more detail on the face of the sitter.
Gift for a friend who recently lost her cat of 17 years. She put the sleeping one on the nightstand and said it helped. I wasn’t sure a figurine could do that. Apparently it can.
The stretch pose is perfect. My actual cat does exactly that on the windowsill every morning. Having the miniature next to him is genuinely funny and genuinely touching at the same time.
